Leaving school

Young people must be in full time education, training or employment until their 18th birthday.

Further education

Find a college course or 6th form near you. Alternatively, you might want to find a training course or traineeship.

Jobs and apprenticeships

The Jobs and careers section of the Services for Young People website has great advice on deciding on a career, finding a job and what options you've got.

If you're aged 16–19, Services for Young People can help you find a job or apprenticeship. Please register for an account to receive tailored information about job vacancies, apprenticeships, traineeships and further education opportunities. If you have a learning disability, they can help you up to the age of 24. If you're a care leaver, they can help you up to the age of 21.

Volunteering

Begin volunteering alongside part-time training that leads to an accredited qualification.

Volunteering can be a good way to get into employment. At the very least, it helps you get some experience and improve your skills.
